Brother Printers Rise: PCWorld's 2010 Reliability & Service Survey

Brother Printers got the nod of PCWorld readers in terms of reliability & customer support and continued its ascent to being the top printer brand.

In PC World's most recent survey for printers, Brother printers matched perennial leader Canon on five reliability criteria garnering better than average ratings from respondents. At the same time, it (Brother) got improved marks on 4 service measures. Starting in 2009, Brother printers have already been cited by this annual poll as a reliable brand vis-a-vis Canon printers. Its improvement in customer support this year marks its emergence as Canon's closest challenger in overall printer market dominance.

PCWorld annually asks its readers which tech companies come out with the best products and provide the best customer service. The survey aims to find out from readers what are the best desktops, laptops, smart phones & wireless providers, HDTVs, Printers and Cameras. In short, tech brands that the readers trust.

On the printer category, Canon continues to generally lord it over but Brother is now just close by. The survey is a further testament that Brother printers are wise choices for home & office printing solutions.

Take Brother printers' reliability to the next level by considering remanufactured Brother toners as replacement toners. Original toner cartridges are still expensive to this day and can certainly affect the frequency with which you use your Brother printers.

Hewlett Packard ePrint - Print anywhere, anytime you want to

The industry is abuzz with the latest set of printers recently launched by printer giant HP and its ePrint solutions. HP's new set of printers eliminates the need for a PC. Content from the internet or an internet-enabled device can be emailed and be printed directly to the nearest printer.

Counting on the need by people on the go, HP offers a solution when a print-out is wanted and the the person is in transit. Inside the office or at home, printing out something is not a big deal. But in transit, there are still many occasions where emergency print-out may be needed. This is where HP's new product comes in.

Each of these new printers will be given a specific e-mail address. So, any document to be printed such as plane tickets, coupons, or any important documents needed in a business meeting, can be sent via e-mail to one of these HP printers and be printed immediately or be scheduled on a later time. And it may come directly from the internet, smartphones, tablets and netbooks without additional set-ups or proxies.

HP is adapting Apples strategy in supplying a gadget and then offer apps for that gadget to be more useful. Applications can be customized in these new printers. Owners can create and then share it easily. HP's tie-up with major content providers affords users to access the information they want and share that in printed form easily. HP also has tie up with printonthego that has a network of printer like in hotels, all the more giving users the chance to print something anytime and anywhere they want or need to using their blackberry or any other internet-abled device.

HP ingeniously addresses a need and at the same time pushes its products in the market - laser printers and laser toner cartridges. If the businesses and consumers embrace this idea, then HP is ensured a continous demand for replacement toner cartridges, of raking in the profits. Even advertising via the network of printers are being explored by HP through Yahoo.

I wouldn't be surprised if other printer makers will follow suit.

The Prepeat EcoPrinter: Less Printing Consumables

The future of consumable-less printing has been ushered with the exhibition of Sanwa Newtec's Prepeat Eco-printer at the 2009 Eco Products.

This printer uses a special thermal head to be able to print and in conjunction with a special purpose rewritable paper. No ink or toner cartridge is needed. And the paper can be used up to 1000 times.

Because it is a new technology, it is priced very expensively. The printer costs 500,000 Yen while the paper cost 300 Yen per sheet. But as we all know, as technology develops, gadgets and machines tend to become cheaper.

At the moment, I can only think of the Newspaper industry that can benefit with this kind of printer. And of course, the environment as a whole because no more cartridge to dispose after and less paper consumption.

But in the meantime, for those businesses or home users worried about the high cost of printing consumables, they can opt for cheaper but quality remanufactured ink/toner cartridges and recycled paper in order to limit their printing expenses.
